Call for Tutorials

Tutorials are intended to provide in-depth coverage of a single technical or cultural subject supporting one or more of the main conference themes. Tutorials can be either a half-day or a full-day in duration. The format should be instructional in nature. Upon completion of the tutorial, the audience should have acquired a coherent body of knowledge related to the tutorial subject.

Tutorial proposals must include:

  • Title: short title that identifies the tutorial
  • Abstract: 1-2 paragraphs describing the tutorial
  • Learning Objectives: a one paragraph definition of learning objectives, which will be used by reviewers to assess the proposal
  • Outline: topical outline of the tutorial
  • Length: duration of the tutorial (half- or full-day)
  • Participant Count: minimum and maximum number of participants
  • Target Audience: description of the nature of the target audience including professional/scholarly background (e.g., librarians, computer scientists, etc.) and level of experience (e.g., introductory, intermediate, advanced)
  • Presenter Bios: a brief biographical sketch of the presenter(s); and contact information of the presenter(s).

Note that the tutorial title and abstract should be written to attract the target audience (rather than the reviewers) since these components will appear in the conference program.

Tutorial proposals must be submitted in electronic form via the JCDL 2008 submission web page by February 8, 2008.  For further information, please contact the Tutorial Chairs: Carl Lagoze at lagoze@cs.cornell.edu or Sandy Payette at payette@cs.cornell.edu.
